Hebrew University of Jerusalem

Hebrew University of Jerusalem

Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI) is Israel’s highest ranked university and is recognised worldwide for its research excellence. Founded in 1918, its first Board of Governors included Albert Einstein (who donated all his papers to HUJI) and Sigmund Freud.

Academic Highlights

HUJI teaches humanities, social sciences, exact sciences, medicine and agriculture to more than 23000 students over six campuses. It has five affiliated teaching hospitals and 11 libraries, including the world’s largest Jewish studies library.

Location

HUJI’s three largest campuses are located in Jerusalem, including the main campus at Mount Scopus in north-east Jerusalem where the Rothberg International School is located.

Did you know?

HUJI was co-founded by Albert Einstein and first president of Israel Chaim Weizmann, and its alumni include 4 Israeli prime ministers and 15 Nobel Prize winners. After significant debate, HUJI adopted the newly-revived Modern Hebrew language instead of German as its primary language of instruction.
