Accommodation

All exchange students are automatically assigned to a shared room (double room) in one of several on-campus dormitories. The dormitory fee for one semester varies depending on the requested meal plan and can range from around US$500 for no meal plan to US$1,000 for three meals per day at the dormitory cafeteria.

Visas

Students must get a Student Visa (D-2) before travelling to Korea. Once accepted by KNU, you receive a certificate of admission. You will need to contact the local South Korean embassy or consulate at least three months before departure to begin the visa process but confirm the process with the embassy or consulate first.

Applying for the Alien Registration Card (ARC) is mandatory after arrival in Korea. You will get more information about this process from KNU at their orientation.

Health and insurance

All international students in Korea are subject to mandatory enrollment in the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) while in Korea. The estimated cost is approximately KRW 71,520 (US$60) per month.

When travelling on a Monash Abroad approved program, you are automatically covered under the Monash University Student Travel Insurance policy. This will provide cover to and from your exchange.

Orientation and extra-curricular

All new incoming exchange students are assigned a Korean student buddy who will help you adjust to a life at Kyungpook National University. Your buddy will contact you via e-mail prior to your departure for Korea.

On average, two exchange students will be paired with one Korean KNU student buddy to assist with settling into their new lives in Korea, communication, and cultural exchange.
