Courses

As most units offered in English are usually only available at third year of undergraduate studies or in the masters program, students should have completed sufficient study in their discipline area to allow them to meet the prerequisites of those units. More flexibility will be available for students who can study in Swedish.

Students must select a minimum of 50% of their credits within one specific school at KTH.

The School of Architecture is not included in the exchange agreement, so you cannot study any Architecture units.

Accommodation

Exchange students are assisted in finding housing within easy commuting distance of the campuses. Accommodation is very competitive in Stockholm so early applications are encouraged.

Visas

All exchange students going to Sweden must obtain a Student Residence Permit. Once you have been accepted by Lund, you apply for the Permit to the Swedish Migration Agency. Citizens of some countries require a visa to enter Sweden as well as a residence permit.  Once your visa and/or permit have been granted, you visit the local embassy or consulate to have your picture and your fingerprints taken.

KTH also provides some advice on obtaining a residence permit.

Health and insurance

The Swedish government has designed insurance for foreign students coming to Sweden within an exchange agreement, "Student IN". KTH provides further information on insurance, including additional coverage available for exchange students.

When travelling on a Monash Abroad approved program, you are automatically covered under the Monash University Student Travel Insurance policy. This will provide cover to and from your exchange.

Orientation and extra-curricular

When arriving in Stockholm for your studies, you will take part in an extensive introduction program provided by KTH and the Student Union, THS. This includes a welcome reception, as well as social activities and guided tours. If you arrive in Sweden on one of the designated Arrival Days, you may be able to take advantage of the arrival day services including free bus transfers from the airport.

KTH has a vibrant student life for exchange students to enjoy, with an active Student Union organising social events.

KTH offers free Swedish language courses for exchange students as either an intensive or part-time study load, and at a variety of proficiency levels.

Cost of living

Residence visa conditions in Sweden require from 1 January 2019 that you to have a budget of at least SEK 10,656 (c. A$1,622) per month during your exchange. KTH offers information on the estimated cost of living for exchange students.

Funding

For information about funding available to support study on exchange overseas, see the Financial Information page on the Monash Abroad website.

Important notes

Due to the limited availability of units in English in first and second years, KTH requires undergraduate exchange applicants to have completed at least two years or 96 Monash credit points at Monash University by the start of their exchange.
