Tel Aviv University (TAU) is Israel's largest tertiary institution and offers the widest range of teaching fields in the country. Interdisciplinary collaboration is a core value of TAU’s academic culture. TAU has 17 teaching hospitals and 18 performing arts centres.

Academic Highlights

TAU has 30,000 students studying in nine faculties across the spectrum of science, humanities and the arts. It’s particularly renowned for research in areas of brain studies, nanotechnology, environmental studies, cyber security, film and music. The university has been responsible for the development of everything from mouthwash to memory cards and barcode scanners.

TAU is located in the Ramat Aviv neighbourhood of Tel Aviv, a vibrant, lively city with great beaches, restaurants, shopping, art and nightlife.

Tel Aviv’s 13 official beaches stretch 14 kilometres. Several of them feature beach libraries and there are segregated beaches for the religious, gay beaches, family friendly beaches and beaches for dog owners.

Academic requirements

  • Students are allowed to take up to five units (referred to as classes or courses). Courses are worth between 1 to 4 credits each, with 1 credit point being equivalent to 13 academic hours.
  • TAU has a specific Law exchange program, you can find out more here.

Language requirements

  • The official language of instruction at TAU is Hebrew. However, there are 50 English-taught courses in the Law faculty, and an additional 50 in the wider faculties.

Please note that units offered at Tel Aviv's Faculty of Management are only offered at Master level in English. Undergraduate students are not eligible to take these units.

As a general rule, if formally accepted by the host institution into a program longer than three months, you will be required to obtain a multiple-entry A-2 student visa through an Israeli Embassy or Consulate prior to your arrival in Israel.

Health and insurance

TAU provides information on health insurance here, and on safety, health and wellness.

When travelling on a Monash Abroad approved program, you are automatically covered under the Monash University Student Travel Insurance policy. This will provide cover to and from your exchange.

Orientation and extra-curricular 

TAU holds an orientation program for exchange students following their arrival which is mandatory to attend.

TAU has a vibrant student life for exchange students, which includes a buddy systemsports and activities, and cultural events. Students also have the opportunity to learn Hebrew.

Funding

Walter Mangold Trust Fund Scholarship

Students taking Hebrew language courses may be eligible for the Walter Mangold Study Abroad Scholarship.
