University of Hawaii at Manoa

University of Hawaii at Manoa

The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UHM) is the largest and oldest of the 10 University of Hawai’i campuses. Established in 1907, UHM offers hundreds of undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees in four main colleges: Arts and Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Literature and Linguistics and Natural Sciences and Social Sciences. It is a global leader in earth and environmental sciences with a strong commitment to diversity.

Academic Highlights

Much of the research at UHM relates to Hawai’i’s physical landscape, people and heritage. The geography facilitates advances in marine biology, oceanography, underwater robotic technology, astronomy, geology and geophysics, agriculture, aquaculture and tropical medicine.

Location

UHM occupies 130 hectares in Mānoa, an affluent neighbourhood at the mouth of the Mānoa Valley, about 5km inland from downtown Honolulu.

As a general rule, a student visa is required to study in the US.  UHM provides further information on getting a visa.  To obtain a visa you will need to do so through the US Consulate General in Melbourne.

Health and insurance

When travelling on a Monash Abroad approved program, you are automatically covered under the Monash University Student Travel Insurance policy. This will provide cover to and from your exchange. UHM provides information on the health insurance requirements for exchange students.  Exchange students must also complete a health clearance form in their application.

UHM has a vibrant student life, which includes student clubs and associationsarts and culturesports and recreation, and outdoor classes.

Students also have the opportunity to learn about the Hawaiian language and culture as part of their studies; the units have the course codes HWST and HAW (Hawaiian and Hawaiian Studies) in the course catalogue.
