Established in 1892, the Liverpool Law School (LLS) is one of the oldest law departments in the UK. Liverpool is committed to contributing, through the excellence of their research and policy work, and critical exploration of the role of law in promoting, or inhibiting, social justice.
Academic Highlights
Lectures and small group teaching, learning cafes and legal skills, online resources and exercises, guided group work and presentations all form part of the Liverpool Law School's teaching delivery. Students also have ample opportunity to engage in lively moots, negotiations and debates. Liverpool Law School is truly international, with partnerships around the world and a diverse community of students.
Location
The University of Liverpool (UoL) is an urban campus, occupying 100 acres just a five-minute walk from the city centre of Liverpool. The third-largest city in England, Liverpool has a vibrant cultural life, with the highest number of museums and galleries in the UK outside London.
Did you know?
The University of Liverpool's gothic-style Victoria Building inspired the term “redbrick university”, which refers to six British universities established in leading industrial English cities during the Victorian age. Opened in 1892, it has been restored as the Victoria Gallery and Museum.

- If you wish to spend a full year at the University of Liverpool you must apply for September entry. Full year study commencing in January is not possible
- To avoid clashes, Liverpool suggests picking all modules from the same level

Accommodation
Students staying in Liverpool for Semester 1 only can apply for a self-catered, single study bedroom in UoL’s Study Abroad Village.
Students staying for a full year or Semester 2 only will be guaranteed accommodation in University Residences.

Visas
Non-UK or European Union citizens must have a valid student visa to undertake an exchange period. To apply, you will need a visa support letter (Confirmation of Acceptance) from your host university.
If studying for more than six months, then a Tier 4 (general) student visa may be required.
If going for less than six months, a Tier 4 (general) student visa or a short-term study visa may be required. The short-term study visa is the simpler and cheaper option for entering the UK however the visa cannot be extended and no work can be undertaken (paid or unpaid) while in the UK.
If you are not a national of a majority English-speaking country you may need to meet UK Border Agency language requirements. Be sure to check the requirements.

Health and insurance
Tier 4 General Student visa applicants are required to pay an immigration health charge (IHS) at the point of submitting their visa application. The charge will entitle the visa holder to free health services under the National Health Service (NHS) once inside the UK. Find out more about health services with the Tier 4 visa here. Those who are applying for a short-term visa will need to arrange their own health cover.
When travelling on a Monash Abroad approved program, you are automatically covered under the Monash University Student Travel Insurance policy. This will provide cover to and from your exchange.
Orientation and extra-curricular
A range of orientation sessions and activities are held specifically for international students.
UoL has a vibrant university life for exchange students, including a student union, sporting clubs and outdoor activities, as well as many things to see and do in the city of Liverpool.
UoL's Study Abroad Team also organise a buddy scheme to help students to settle in to the exchange programme.
