University of Ljubljana

University of Ljubljana

Founded in 1919, the University of Ljubljana is a public university with more than 60,000 enrolled students, making it one of the largest in Europe. The School of Business and Economics (SEB LU) was founded in 1946 and has developed a progressive and internationally focused attitude.

Academic Highlights

One of the esteemed few business school around the globe to hold so-called “triple crown” accreditation, the Faculty of Economics is the University of Ljubljana's largest, with more than 6000 students. It consistently ranks the top in Slovenia. For incoming students, the SEB LU offers over 80 units taught in English.

Location

Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia, a European republic that was part of the former Yugoslavia, situated between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea. The campus is located in the centre of the attractive city dating back to medieval times; some newer buildings have been added on the northern outskirts.

A former army base taken over by an informal alliance of artists and musicians, Metelkova City is Ljubljana’s answer to Copenhagen’s Christiania Freetown, and the thriving home to a number of clubs, bars and performance spaces.

The University has a limited accommodation but due to high demand, places cannot be guaranteed. Both the School and the University provide assistance in finding private accommodation, if necessary.

Visas

Students are required to obtain a visa C (tourist visa, up to 90 days) or visa D (long term visa, 90 days to 1 year) at a diplomatic mission of the Republic of Slovenia abroad prior to entering the Republic of Slovenia. For more information on visas, refer to the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Canberra website.

The University also provides information on visas and residence permits.

Orientation and extra-curricular

SEB LU organises an orientation program prior to commencement of classes. The School also offers a local tutor or buddy to every exchange student to help them settle in to student life and organise social activities.

There are opportunities for students to learn Slovenian in Ljubljana, either at the Centre for Slovene as a Second Language or a free online course.

The University of Ljubljana has a vibrant campus life for exchange students to participate in, including student organisations for international students.
