Part of Waseda University, the Waseda Business School offers world class education and fosters a culture of diverse learning. Established in 1904, the Business School offers postgraduate study in accounting, finance, entreprenuership, human resource management and more.

Location
The Waseda Business School is located in Shinjuku, central Tokyo. It was rebuilt in 1949, after the original 1882 campus was mostly destroyed during the firebombing of Tokyo during World War Two.

Academic Restrictions
- Students applying for an exchange in Japan will need to have a WAM of 65% or above.
- Elective and bilingual courses (except for ‘GOTO bilingual workshop’) offered in the MBA program are open to exchange students.
- Courses that are classified as Compulsory Core courses, IMBA Compulsory Elective Core courses and overseas courses are not open to exchange students.
- Compulsory Elective Core subjects offered at MSc in Finance program are open to exchange students.
Terminology
- Units at Waseda Business School are referred to as ‘courses’ (and most units are worth two credits each).

Accommodation
Waseda provides some information about on-campus and off-campus accommodation.
Visas
Exchange students must obtain a College Student visa to enter Japan. To apply for the College Student visa, you need to submit the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) for residence in Japan to your nearest Japanese Consulate. Your host University will issue the COE to you after your exchange application has been accepted.

Health and insurance
All people residing in Japan are required to join the National Health Insurance System. Find out more Japanese Government Health Insurance here.
When travelling on a Monash Abroad approved program, you are automatically covered under the Monash University Student Travel Insurance policy. This will provide cover to and from your exchange.
Orientation and extra-curricular
Orientation is organised before the start of semester and attendance is mandatory. Further information can be found at the Schedule After Coming to Japan.
Waseda's Intercultural Communication Centre (ICC) organises events and activities as part of a cultural exchange between local and international students.
Waseda has a vibrant campus life, including sports, clubs and an active student union.
The Centre for Japanese Language is one of the largest Japanese language educational institutions in Japan, and has eight levels of short and long term proficiency classes for students to join.
Cost of living
Waseda has estimated that the cost of living for exchange students is approximately 80,000 yen per month including food, transport, and daily necessities (as stated in their Exchange Program Overview e-brochure).
Funding
Each year, Japanese universities apply for Japanese government funding for the following scholarships:
- The Japan Student Services Organizations (JASSO) scholarship here.
- The Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) scholarship here.
If Waseda University is successful in receiving the funding, they will request Monash to nominate students. You do not need to apply for these scholarships directly unless requested to do so.
Students may also be eligible for the New Colombo Plan scholarship, and if they are studying Japanese language courses, the Walter Mangold Study Abroad Scholarship.
