Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM)

Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM)

Opened in 1946, Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) is a private, non-profit Mexican institution of higher education. It was founded by the Mexican Cultural Association, a prominent group of bankers, industrialists, and businessmen who aimed to make higher education the driving force behind industrial and economic change in Mexico. The School of Economics, ITAM’s pioneering program, was the main force behind this goal.

Academic Highlights

A leading institution in the social, engineering, and managerial sciences, it offers courses in economics, law, and political science; international relations; business administration and accounting; mathematics, statistics and actuarial science; and engineering.

Location

ITAM has two campuses. The main one, Campus Rio Hondo, is located in the south part of Mexico City in the neighbourhood of San Angel, which in 1934 was declared a Pueblo Típico Pintoresco (Picturesque Typical Town) and in 1987 declared an historical monument zone.
