Nagoya University of Commerce and Business (NUCB)

Nagoya University of Commerce & Business (名古屋商科大学 Nagoya Shōka Daigaku), abbreviated as NUCB, is a Japanese private university located in Nisshin, Aichi within the Tokai region of Japan. Originally established in 1935, NUCB was the first undergraduate institution in Japan and one of only 5% of business schools worldwide to achieve the much sought-after AACSB accreditation.

Academic Highlights

NUCB was the first accredited AACSB undergraduate institution in Japan. NUCB achieved accreditation of its undergraduate and graduate programs in 2006 and successfully maintained it to date.

In 2021, NUCB was ranked the best private university offering business programs in Central Japan by Times Higher Education for their internationality pillar. In September 2021, NUCB Business School became the first Triple Crown (AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS) accredited business school in Japan.

Location

NUCB's main campus, Nisshin Nagakute, is set in the beautiful Nisshin countryside just outside of Nagoya City where they have over 3,000 students and over 100 faculty. They also have a downtown campus located within walking distance from Nagoya station. Greater Nagoya is Japan’s third-largest metropolitan area after Tokyo and Osaka. Home to front-running companies such as Toyota, the city and its surroundings are clean, safe, and an exciting area to live in.

Did you know?

“Frontier Spirit” is the founding spirit and motto of the Kurimoto Educational Institute. The Founder of NUCB's family of schools, Dr. Yuichi Kurimoto, was the first international graduate of the University of Alberta, Canada. While he was a student there in the early Showa era, he was very impressed by the energy by which the Canadians were opening up to the western frontier.

“Frontier Spirit” refers to the school's mission to create leaders rather than followers, to nurture young persons who think creatively and independently and to impart to students the skills and qualities that they will need to become pioneers in the future. Specifically “Frontier Spirit” refers to the spirit of that person who never gives up and who, by acting in an original manner, seeks to benefit humanity, society, and the nation.

Each year, Japanese universities apply for Japanese government funding for the following scholarships:

  • The Japan Student Services Organizations (JASSO) scholarship here.
  • The Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) scholarship here.

If NUCB is successful in receiving the funding, they will request Monash to nominate students. You do not need to apply for these scholarships directly unless requested to do so.

Students may also be eligible for the New Colombo Plan scholarship, and if they are studying Japanese language courses, the Walter Mangold Study Abroad Scholarship.

For more information about funding available to support study on exchange overseas, see the Financial Information page on the Monash Abroad website.
