Visas

All foreign nationals must apply for Resident or Visitor Visa from the nearest Taiwanese Embassy or Mission. If you are a mainland China passport holder, you will need an Entry Permit to enter Taiwan. See NTU's web page on obtaining a visa and an alien resident certificate.

For more information on visas, refer to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Melbourne.

Health and insurance

You must have your own insurance before travelling to Taiwan, and be able to provide proof of this insurance.  Read the NTU information on insurance for exchange students. When travelling on a Monash Abroad approved program, you are automatically covered under the Monash University Student Travel Insurance policy. Check to see if this meets the requirements for NTU.

To meet NTU and Taiwanese government requirements, all new students must have a health exam conducted by a qualified doctor.  There is a form that must be completed and submitted when you register on arrival before you can get your student card.  It is recommended you download the form and have it completed in your home country before arriving in Taiwan.

Orientation and extra-curricular

NTU organises mandatory orientation sessions for incoming exchange students as well as additional activities. The University's student Facebook page outlines its many clubs and activities. There is also information online about campus life, including transport, student activities and organisations, and sporting facilities.

Exchange students also have the opportunity to take a complimentary Chinese language course at NTU.

Cost of living

NTU advises that you should expect to spend approximately T$106,000 (TWD) for one semester.  NTU provides some additional guidance on the estimated cost of living per semester.

Note that you are not permitted to work in Taiwan as an exchange student.

For information about funding available to support study on exchange overseas, see the Financial Information page on the Monash Abroad website.

Other funding available for students studying on exchange at NTU for which you may be eligible is New Colombo Plan Scholarship and, if you are taking Chinese language units, the Walter Mangold Study Abroad Scholarship.
