Trinity College Dublin (TCD or "Trinity") is one of Europe’s most renowned and historic universities. Founded in the heart of Dublin in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I, TCD is Ireland’s top university and boasts several centres of research excellence in the arts and sciences, in addition to a library collection of over 6 million books.
Academic Highlights
Courses at Trinity are research-led and taught by faculty who are leaders in their fields, and offer small group tutorials, seminars and experimental learning opportunities. Modules are offered in over 12 languages and all undergraduate students are provided with a Personal Tutor: a blend of mentor and advisor who provides personal and academic advice and support throughout a student’s time at TCD.

Language requirements
- English is the language of teaching at TCD. If English is not your first language, you will be asked for proof of English language proficiency. More information on TCD's language requirements can be found here.
Academic considerations
- Students must have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.1 or above.
- Trinity offers a broad range of courses from the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering, Mathematics and Science
- You are permitted to take modules from across faculties, subject to timetabling constraints
- Trinity's units are worth 5, 10 or 15 ECTS each. If you are wanting to do 18 Monash credit points whilst on exchange, you will need to do 25 ECTS at Trinity (as 22.5 ECTS is not possible).

Accommodation
Trinity offers accommodation for study abroad students in modern, purpose-built student accommodation close to Trinity, offering en-suite rooms, common rooms, a gym, laundry facilities as well as regular student social events. More information about the accommodation application process will be sent by the Study Abroad Team after admittance to Trinity.
Students also have the option to pursue independent accommodation, but Trinity encourages its study abroad students to accept Trinity-approved accommodation to avoid needing to search for a short-term lease on arrival. Trinity offers advice on off-campus accommodation here.
Visas
You may require a visa for study in Ireland. There are different regulations depending on how long you wish to stay in Ireland. All students who do NOT hold an EU passport must register with the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) after arrival.

Health and insurance
The Irish Naturalisation and Immigration also require all non-EU students to show proof that they possess health insurance to cover major medical care. A local plan bought in Ireland will cost around €1,000 per year.
When travelling on a Monash Abroad approved program, you are automatically covered under the Monash University Student Travel Insurance policy. This will provide cover to and from your exchange.

Orientation and extra-curricular
Trinity offers a comprehensive orientation programme every term for exchange students to introduce them to student life and provide them with academic information as well as extra-curricular activities.
Trinity also offer an optional pre-orientation programme, called The Trinity Semester Start-Up Programme. This does require payment by the student, as this is not covered by the exchange agreement tuition waiver.
Trinity’s study abroad students are fully integrated into campus life, so it is easy to make friends for life while you are abroad. Join one of Trinity’s nearly 200 clubs, societies and sports, attend campus events, hang out in the Global Room – there are so many ways to become a part of Trinity’s student community. Important notes
Due to the popularity of this partner institution, for semester 1, 2026 onwards Monash students can only apply to study here on exchange for one semester.
Trinity College Dublin will only accept full year applications once a year, at the start of their academic year (Semester 2 in Monash). Students are not able to submit full year applications starting in Semester 1.
