It was music to our ears upon hearing that this year’s Matheson Society Lunch would be held at the newly and spectacularly refurbished Ian Potter Performing Arts Centre.

Although the aftermath of the pandemic was still felt in the absence of some distinguished guests, the show went on at the helm of Ms Susanne Williamson, Chief Philanthropy Officer, and Professor Sue Elliott AM provided the welcome address.

Guests were then treated to a Q and A session led by Professor Margaret Barrett, Head of Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music and Performance, along with four of the School’s inspirational double-degree Performing Arts students. From learning to write musical theatre, to leading an orchestra, the students expressed their heartfelt gratitude to you: our bequestors.

Your generosity has directly impacted these students’ lives and made their musical aspirations a reality. For classical violin and Microbiology student Ella Summers, living in Melbourne to study would have been impossible without scholarship assistance.

At the event’s conclusion, bequestors and guests enjoyed a tour of the revitalised Centre, which houses a world-class theatre and music venue, as well as the new David Li Sound Gallery. The Centre boasts some of the most advanced sound technology and acoustics in Australia.
