Tess Robertson
My experience over the last four years at Monash University has been full of experience, great moments of learning, making lifelong connections and growth.
I have also faced challenges and adversity. From juggling part time jobs, deadlines, assessments and managing personal problems, I have most definitely been facing moments that have felt impossible to overcome yet have taught me valuable life experiences in the process.
During my studies, I have developed an interest in working rurally. It took a lot of courage for me to do something that was far outside of my comfort zone. Being away from home, living with strangers and being in a totally unfamiliar area was daunting and definitely not something I would have put my hand up for a few years ago. A significant change I have experienced in my own personal development and growth is having a stronger sense of confidence.
The idea of university was very foreign to me, being the first in my family to go, and I did not know what to expect or what opportunities and pathways were available.
Receiving a scholarship has contributed greatly to my confidence I have in myself and my enthusiasm to continue doing more. It also helps with a number of practical necessities such as university materials, travel and parking costs and other daily expenses that accumulate when studying.
I would like to deeply express my gratitude to Lippmann Family for the support - your contribution has a great impact"
Emil Edirisinghe
Emil Edirisinghe is doing his double degree in Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (MD).
The financial freedom offered to me by the scholarship allowed me to purchase several textbooks, which assisted my understanding of material immensely. Furthermore, the freedom provided by the scholarship allowed me to dedicate more of my time to my studies, including extracurricular development.
I have discovered a new sense of awareness about my passions and future career goals. As I am still early in my medical journey, I find this information highly valuable for the directions I want to pursue in the future. I thank you for allowing me to find this direction.
I have been able to engage more with my hobbies due to the Menon Dahl Scholarship. Due to the free time enabled by the scholarship I was able to continue in my position in the Monash Medical Orchestra and furthering my passion for music. Furthermore, I have been able to re-join the Monash Association of Debaters (MAD), which I was not able to in early 2021 due to work. The freedom provided by the scholarship allowed me to stop working and attend MAD training session and to reignite my passion for debating.
Your advocacy and your leadership will establish this next phase in Monash’s journey as a landmark in our short but rich history to date.
