Hannah Collis has always been passionate about the great outdoors and conserving and exploring the natural world.
She undertook work experience at Healesville Sanctuary and volunteered with Parks Victoria, where she realised her passion for the outdoors and science could be pursued with a Bachelor of Science Advanced Research at Monash.
Hannah is majoring in Ecology and Conservation Biology and Earth Science. Dr Ray Shaw has given Hannah the opportunity to live her dreams by allowing Hannah to study sea turtles in Costa Rica and marine heatwaves in Tasmania over the summer through his support of the Pinnacle Science Scholarship. She is planning to undertake her PhD after her Honours, to become a research scientist.
“I hope that my work will aid in policy conservation and education, as humanity needs to strive towards becoming more sustainable. We need to protect the natural world which I, and many like me, love and cherish”.
I would like to say a massive thank you for this opportunity and your generosity. This scholarship has allowed me to focus on my academic studies and to continue developing as a scientist. I am incredibly grateful and motivated to continue to strive for academic excellence.
