On Friday 25 August, we had the pleasure of welcoming guests to the Matheson Library for a tour of the Treasures of the Monash Library, hosted by Special Collections curator Dr Anne Holloway. The exhibition spans 930 years, from 1050–1980 and features many historically significant books including antique cookbooks, medical writings and children’s books.
As part of the tour, Matheson Society members and guests were given behind-the-scenes access to the Special Collections room and a display of rare and unique books in the library’s collection. If you are interested in seeing what the library has to offer, please contact any of our team in Planned Giving, we would be delighted to welcome you to campus and the Library. We also anticipate another tour in 2024 so stay tuned for invitations in your inbox.

Treasures from the Monash University Library is a display of unique items and highlights rare treasures such as our earliest (11th century) manuscript fragments. This event included a private showing of our highest value items, such as John Gould’s Birds of Australia, Ferdinand von Mueller’s Flora Australiensis, and our beautiful 1488 incunable of the Summa Angelica de Casibus Conscientiae.
