Eka Permanasari, PhD is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Master of Urban Design, Monash University, Indonesia. She is a highly accomplished and internationally recognised scholar, with over two decades of teaching and professional experience in architecture and urban design fields especially in community-based development, and urban planning projects.

Her core research areas include analysing the political and urban symbolism reflected in the state architecture and urban design; urban expansion and private cities in Southeast Asia, urban gentrification and strangled kampongs in Indonesia; sustainable and liveable city in Nusantara; and community participatory approach in urban design. Her notable community participatory based development projects were the development of 6 pilot projects of community centers in Jakarta (RPTRA) which were scaled up to 298 community centers in Jakarta.

She excels in cultivating interdisciplinary research collaborations, leading international projects, and delivering influential public lectures across the globe. Her current research focuses on addressing sustainability and social challenges in private cities, advancing net-zero energy precincts, and exploring urban development initiatives in Banten.
