Arran Ridley is an Assistant Professor in Marketing and Digital Communications, in the Faculty of Arts at Monash University, Indonesia. He holds a PhD in Media and Communication from the University of Leeds, and a masters in Digital Media and Culture, from the Centre of Interdisciplinary Methodologies at the University of Warwick. Before joining Monash, he had experience as a researcher at the Urban Complexity Lab, located in the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam in Germany, and at the VisHub Lab, located in the School for Informatics at the University of Edinburgh. He also served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow on the Generic Visuals in the News project at the University of Leeds.

Arran’s teaching experience has seen him teach on courses at the University of Warwick, University of Leeds, University of Edinburgh, and University of Applied Sciences Potsdam. Outside of his academic teaching work he also had 7 years experience of teaching art, design, and media courses in specialist and disability education.

His research interests include critical data studies, design studies, digital methods, and the study of data visualisation, from both a theoretical and practical point of view. He also has interest in low-carbon methodologies, digital and data literacies, data journalism and data storytelling. He has published several papers on topics related to digital methods, utilising data from Facebook and Reddit, and published a number of data-driven stories in outlets such as Kontinentalist.   • KONEKSI Collaborative Grants (2024-2026).
