Daliana Suryawinata
Associate Professor in Practice, Urban Design
Daliana Suryawinata is a licensed architect, urban designer, and practice researcher. She is Associate Professor in Practice (Urban Design) at Monash University, Indonesia and co-founder of SHAU (Suryawinata–Heinzelmann Architecture and Urbanism), an internationally recognised architecture and urban design practice based in Rotterdam and Bandung. Her practice research focuses on socio-climatic architecture, urban acupuncture, and the role of architects as catalysts in complex urban contexts.
Daliana holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Architecture from Tarumanagara University (Jakarta) and an Advanced Master of Architecture from the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam. Before founding SHAU in 2009, she worked with internationally renowned architecture, urban design and landscape architecture offices in the Netherlands, including OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture), MVRDV, and West 8. She also taught and conducted research at The Why Factory TU Delft and the Berlage Institute.
At SHAU, Daliana has co-led multi-awarded built projects across Southeast Asia, including public parks, libraries, housing, and urban masterplans, including the 14.8 hectare Vice Presidential Palace complex at Nusantara, the New Capital and 45,000m2 Performing Arts Center in Jakarta.
She bridges practice, research, and education through exhibitions, publications, lectures and jury work. She currently serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Architecture (RIBA/ Taylor & Francis) and is a founding member of the Microlibrary Foundation and the Liveable Cities of the Indonesian Diaspora Network.
