The Ariel Liebman RACE for 2030 PhD Program offers a unique, industry aligned scholarship framework that brings together three key partners: RACE for 2030, Monash University, Indonesia, and PT PLN (Persero) as the principal industry collaborator. This partnership creates a deeply integrated academic–industry ecosystem designed to produce impactful, real world research outcomes for Indonesia’s clean energy transition.
A unique learning experience
Scholars undertake three years of doctoral study at Monash University, Indonesia, BSD Campus, complemented by a six month research immersion at Monash University in Melbourne. This structure provides a rich blend of local relevance and global exposure, enabling students to engage with cutting edge research environments across two countries while maintaining a strong focus on Indonesia’s energy needs.
A multidisciplinary supervisory network
Each PhD project is guided by a collaborative supervisory team that spans institutions and expertise. Supervisors and co supervisors come from Monash University, Indonesia, Monash University, Australia, and leading Indonesian universities including ITB, IPB, and UNHAS. This network ensures diverse academic perspectives and robust research guidance aligned with both scientific rigor and industry relevance.

Fully funded pathways for PLN talent
The program offers a fully funded scholarship for high performing, eligible employees of PLN, supporting them to become future leaders in Indonesia’s energy sector. Research topics are jointly defined by Monash, RACE for 2030, and PLN, ensuring that each project addresses strategic challenges and priorities within Indonesia’s evolving energy landscape.
