Dr. Dewi Nur Aisyah is an epidemiologist and digital health expert whose work bridges research, innovation, and public health policy. She serves as Adjunct Associate Professor at Monash University, Indonesia and Honorary Associate Professor at University College London, contributing to global scholarship on digital transformation in healthcare systems, infectious disease surveillance, and primary care strengthening.
At Indonesia’s Ministry of Health, Dr. Aisyah plays a key role as Technical Advisor for Primary Care and Disease Control Digital Transformation, leading national-scale initiatives such as the SATUSEHAT health data integration platform and the ASIK primary care data system. She also pioneered the Cek Kesehatan Gratis (CKG) Presidential health screening program, which leverages real-time data for community health monitoring across Indonesia, as well as the country’s first Electronic Immunization Registry encompassing over 250 million vaccination records.
Previously, she served as Head of Data and Information Technology at the Indonesia COVID-19 National Task Force, where she led the development of the Bersatu Lawan COVID-19 national data integration system—an initiative recognized for transforming pandemic management and informing high-level policy decisions. Her contributions during this period earned her the Gatra Award for National Pandemic Contribution (2021) and recognition as one of the Women in GovTech (2024) for her leadership in public sector innovation.
Dr. Aisyah earned her PhD in Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Informatics from University College London under the Indonesia Presidential Scholarship and her MSc in Modern Epidemiology from Imperial College London. Her research focuses on infectious disease epidemiology, digital health innovation, One Health, primary healthcare strengthening, and the application of data science to strengthen health systems in low- and middle-income countries.

- TB DeCare (Tuberculosis Detect and Care): An Improved Automated Acid Fast Bacilli Test for Tuberculosis Detection
We developed an accurate low-cost diagnostic tool which can be integrated with the sputum smear acid fast bacilli (AFB) test procedure hence will be easily implemented in middle and low-income country setting, where the burden of TB were mostly occurred. Instead of TB manual assessment by counting the number of TB bacteria under microscope performed by lab technician, TB DeCare aims to provide an accurate and robust automated TB detection using images processing analysis, minimizing human error and increasing sensitivity and specificity of detection accordingly. To increase the effectiveness of the technology, we also developed portable microscope to capture the smear image and send it to local computer to be analysed. We use artificial intelligence to analyse the pictures, counting how many TB bacteria then categorize it into negative or positive 1, 2, 3. It will help the lab technician to provide robust result as well as reduce any human error during sputum examination.

- Disease Emergence and Economics Evaluation of Altered Landscapes (DEAL) in Indonesia
DEAL is an 18-month exploratory exercise to quantify how changes to landscapes, particularly forests, contribute to disease emergence in Indonesia. Its objective is to provide an estimated cost of the human health effects caused by this land use change and deforestation. The program builds on USAID’s investments in forests and biodiversity along with pathogen discovery and characterization of disease emergence risk. DEAL is housed in and led by the INDOHUN team from the University of Indonesia and works in collaboration with respective local universities and counterparts in Riau, East Kalimantan, and West Papua to conduct research on impacts of environmental degradation on potential increase in risks to public health.

- The Asia Flu Capacity, European Union Project on: Health System Analysis to Support Capacity Development to Respond to Pandemic Influenza in Asia.
The strategic reason for co-operation between partners from Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam is that three countries have been challenged by H5N1, witnessed human cases, and are at relatively high risk of being at the epicentre of an emergent pandemic of human influenza. The research project brings an understanding of quantitative, qualitative and mixed analytical approaches related to health systems responses to influenza.
