APINDO and Monash University, Indonesia Launch Digital Industry Executive Education Program

South Tangerang, 12 June 2024 – The Digital Industry Executive Education Program finally kicks off at Monash University, Indonesia, on Tuesday (11/6/2024). Professor Matthew Nicholson as President of Monash University, Indonesia, Shinta Kamdani as Chairman of the Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO), and Dr. Chatib Basri as keynote speaker who is also a renowned economist and former finance minister, officially kicked off the Program.
The Digital Industry Executive Education Program is a collaboration between the Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) and Monash University, Indonesia, to foster knowledge exchanges and discussions among diverse practitioners, policymakers and other stakeholders of Indonesia’s digital industry. This program will run from July to December 2024 with three masterclasses and a concluding session of final group presentations, involving 50 participants from various ministries, government bodies, and regional governments.

Dr. Sabina Puspita, Deputy Director of the Monash Herb Feith Indonesian Engagement Centre and Assistant Professor of Public Policy and Management, facilitated the event. Before proceeding the event with the opening remarks, Dr. Puspita explained how the Program aligns with Monash University, Indonesia’s research priorities that intersect with issues on urban transformations, digital societies, and inclusive communities.

In his opening remarks, Professor Nicholson highlighted the importance of the Program amid increasing global uncertainty and digital literacy among younger generations. Shinta Kamdani in her remarks emphasised the Program’s potentials in honing mutual understanding among policymakers, practitioners, and other stakeholders to come up together with the best policy solutions for the broader Indonesian society facing future industrial challenges.

Moderated by Dr. Wara Urwasi, Research Fellow of urban transformation and urban comparative politics at Monash University, Indonesia, Dr. Chatib Basri delivered his keynote speech to stimulate interactive discussions with the participants. Dr. Basri shared two cases during his time as Head of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) and as Minister of Finance under former President Yudhoyono’s administration, to highlight the importance of finding the policy solutions that “best fit the Indonesian context,” rather than those best practised in other contexts of different development trajectory from Indonesia.

Towards the end of the kick-off, Dr. Ivan Butar as Vice President (Education) of Monash University, Indonesia, introduced the program’s structure, timeline, activities, and lecturers for the masterclasses. First, Dr. Puspita and Dr. Altaf Virani will deliver a masterclass on the frameworks of policy making for the digital industry context in July 2024. Then, Dr. Quentin Temby and Dr. Alyas Widita will deliver a masterclass on Indonesia’s technology and digital policy in early October 2024. Finally, Dr. Ika Idris and Dr. Ivan Butar will deliver a masterclass on strategic leadership in November 2024.
At the conclusion of the Program in December 2024, participants across different government bodies will present their final group presentations. They will demonstrate their experience with the masterclasses and their ideas of innovative policy solutions for facing future challenges in Indonesia’s digital industry.
