Banten Mosaic Living Workshop: Shaping the Future of Sustainable Urban Development in Banten

South Tangerang – Monash University, Indonesia proudly hosted the Banten Mosaic Workshop on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 13:00 to 17:00 WIB. This inaugural workshop brought together leading experts, academics, and stakeholders to collaboratively address the future of urbanisation in Banten Province.

As part of the Banten Mosaic Project, the workshop addressed pressing issues related to Banten's rapid urbanisation. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on challenges such as disaster vulnerability, bioregional and natural heritage conservation, cultural preservation, infrastructure development, and economic land-use zones. Through collaborative sessions, participants explored actionable solutions to create a more livable and resilient Banten.

A Comprehensive Agenda for Urban Transformation The day began with a seminar titled “Introducing the Banten Mosaic” which was open to the public. The seminar provided an introduction to Banten Mosaic, underscoring the importance of this initiative in guiding Banten’s urban future. Following the seminar, the workshop engaged attendees in structured discussions, presentations, and interactive activities aimed at identifying Banten’s urban challenges and exploring opportunities for sustainable development.

  • Brainstorming strategic actions to address challenges and seize opportunities

One of the key outcomes of the workshop was the drafting of a position paper titled “Sustainable Urban Transformations in Banten: Setting an Agenda for Rapidly Urbanising Indonesia.” Co-authored by the participants, this publication will serve as a foundation for future research and policy recommendations, reflecting the collective efforts and insights generated during the workshop.

This workshop was a significant step forward in shaping the future of urban development in Banten. By bringing together a diverse range of perspectives and expertise, the event not only facilitated knowledge exchange but also created momentum for future actions and collaborations aimed at sustainable urbanisation.
