Monash University, Indonesia Hosted Online Masterclass with PERUMNAS to Share the Latest Trends in Urban Design and Sustainability
Jakarta, 15 December 2023 - As part of our commitment to improving knowledge on urban design and building the exceptional relationship with our industry partners, Monash University, Indonesia hosted a remote learning masterclass on "Urban Design Trends toward Sustainability” to PERUMNAS (National Urban Development Corporation/NUDC) employee. The event aimed to provide valuable insights and updated knowledge to participants from the office planning and landed project divisions.
The participants enthusiastically took part in the Urban Design masterclass
Delivered by Eka Permanasari, Ph.D., Associate Professor in Urban Design program, the masterclass delved into the crucial aspects of urban design and its connection to sustainability. Through the virtual platform Zoom, participants had the opportunity to engage with Eka Permanasari, Ph.D., gaining a deeper understanding of how urban design can align with green concepts and sustainable practices.
Eka Permanasari giving lecture about the latest trend in urban design
Eka Permanasari, Ph.D. said, "Perumnas is a government-owned housing development company in Indonesia that focuses on creating sustainable and inclusive communities. Sharing the current trend in urban design especially the new Indonesian Green Affordable Housing Program (IGAHP) to Perumnas will equip the company for innovative design strategies to address the challenges of urbanization and promote a better quality of life for residents. The present urban design trend, which aims to produce environmentally sustainable and habitable cities, appears to be in harmony with the mission of Perumnas, which is to enhance the well-being of inhabitants while addressing the challenges posed by urbanisation”.
The event served a twofold purpose. Firstly, the masterclass served as a platform to share the latest knowledge and insights in urban design, specifically in relation to the green concept. PERUMNAS, as a national urban development corporation, has been focusing its efforts on implementing sustainable practices in their landed projects. In fact, several of their projects have already received green certification based on the guidelines provided by IGAHP PUPR, which was launched earlier in 2023.
Secondly, it aimed to raise awareness about Monash University, Indonesia and its commitment to providing quality education. One of the key messages conveyed during the event was the importance of higher education, particularly in the field of Master of Urban Design, which Monash University, Indonesia has been actively promoting to its employees.
Throughout the masterclass, participants actively engaged with the content, raising thought-provoking questions and seeking clarification on various aspects of urban design and sustainability. The event provided a valuable opportunity for knowledge exchange and networking among professionals in the field.
Muhammad Hidayat Isa, Head of the Education & Training Department of PERUMNAS
Muhammad Hidayat Isa, Head of the Education & Training Department, emphasized the significance of the event for PERUMNAS. He stated, "It is important for Perumnas' team to gain updated information on urban design and sustainability, as the company should be able to follow the new policy of sustainability." This sentiment underlines the importance of continuous learning and staying updated with the latest trends and practices in urban design.
As the world continues to face pressing urban challenges, the knowledge shared in this masterclass will undoubtedly contribute to the advancement of sustainable urban design practices in Indonesia.
