Monash University Indonesia Hosts IFAR Meeting and Lunch
Northwestern University and IFRSF visited Monash University, Indonesia
South Tangerang – On 5 February 2025, Monash University, Indonesia received a delegation from Northwestern University and IFRSF. The delegation visited Monash University, Indonesia because it is a member of the International Forum for Academic Research (IFAR) Consortia, a global initiative dedicated to advancing academic excellence through cross-institutional partnerships and interdisciplinary research.
"The meeting underscored the importance of IFAR’s mission in enhancing Indonesia’s research capabilities and global partnerships. Discussions included showcasing one of Monash University, Indonesia's lighthouse research projects, Banten Mosaic, which focuses on inequalities in the province," said Professor Matthew Nicholson, Pro Vice-Chancellor and President of Monash University, Indonesia.
Monash University, Indonesia and Northwestern University already enjoy strong and valued links. As an IFAR Consortia member, and with the support of the Indonesian Scholarship and Research Foundation, Monash University, Indonesia has welcomed five Northwestern Arryman Scholars into IFAR Postdoctoral Research Fellowships since 2022.
"Our membership of the IFAR Consortium has strengthened both our local and international networks of collaboration. We value our Northwestern educated postdoctoral fellows and hope to continue to build links with its Buffett Institute of Global Affairs," added Professor Jane M. Jacobs, VP of Research and Academic Affairs of Monash University, Indonesia.

This delegation included two distinguished scholars from Northwestern University. Professor Laura Hein is Director of the Arryman Scholarships Program, which since 2012 has made a major contribution to higher education in Indonesia by training young Indonesian scholars in the social sciences at Northwestern University. Professor Debroah Cohen is Director of the Buffett Institute for Global Affairs at Northwestern.
The delegation met with President Matthew Nicholson, Vice-President of Research Jane M Jacobs, and Banten Mosaic Principal Investigator, Professor Stephen Cairns. Discussion focussed on strengthening links between Monash University, Indonesia and Northwestern. Monash University, Indonesia extends its gratitude to all attendees and looks forward to continued collaboration with IFAR and global research communities.
