Resilience Redefined: Monash University, Indonesia's PowerTalk Inspires Students to Bounce Back Stronger
South Tangerang, 18 May 2024 - Monash University, Indonesia hosted an engaging and inspiring 30-minute PowerTalk event from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM, following a shared lunch among the participants. The event, moderated by Sayed Yusriansyah, The Student Experience Operations Manager, welcomed around 60 students from various Masters and PhD programs who were fully engaged and excited throughout the session.

The guest speaker for the event was Kiagus Andre Zailani, a Former Senior VP of Customer Experience at PT Smartfren Telecom TBK and a Professional Public Speaker. Zailani delivered a powerful talk titled "Building Resilience: Bouncing Back from Setbacks and Staying on Track," which captivated the audience with its engaging visuals, thought-provoking content, and real-life first hand experiences.
During his presentation, Zailani shared valuable insights and strategies for developing resilience in the face of challenges and setbacks, particularly in the context of personal and academic life. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive mindset, setting achievable goals, seeking support from peers and mentors when facing difficulties, and turning adversity into opportunities.
The event's highlight was the lively discussion session, during which participants actively posed questions to the speaker. Zailani's responses were both informative and inspiring, providing practical advice and real-life examples that resonated with the students.
Aufa, the learning adviser at Monash University, Indonesia, expressed his delight with the event's success and the participants' enthusiastic engagement. "It was wonderful to see how the students actively participated in the discussion and asked thought-provoking questions," he said. "Events like these are crucial for fostering a supportive and inspiring learning environment."
Among the participants was Amanda Tan, a PhD student who shared her positive experience. "The PowerTalk delivered by Kiagus was indeed impactful. There are a lot of new insights gained, such as learning how to say yes when opportunity comes and you’ll learn how to navigate the new environment (and the work that it entails) along the process through hard work and perseverance." she said. "Kiagus Andre Zailani's presentation was not only informative but also highly motivating. It provided me with valuable insights on how to approach setbacks and maintain focus on my academic journey. I truly learned a lot from this event and it definitely strengthens my mental resilience. Looking forward to another Power(ful) talk organised by the Student Experience Team at Monash!"
Another participant, Ferti Sumanthi, echoed Tan's sentiments, stating that the event was timely and beneficial. "The PowerTalk session was exactly what I needed at this point in my studies. Kiagus Andre is inspiring" Sumanthi shared. “His experiences to become a survivor gave me a lot of insight on how to become resilient in very difficult situations, how you deal with family, friends, and your-self. Learning to know why you want to survive and finding a support system is the most important thing to survive.” She also added that, “Power Talk, a very inspiring and beneficial event! It truly helped me gain a new perspective on dealing with setbacks and staying resilient in the face of challenges. I'm grateful for the opportunity to attend such an inspiring event."
