HR Gathering 2023: The Important Role of HR in ESG Success for Sustainable Workplaces

South Tangerang – On 23 November 2023, Monash University, Indonesia hosted an insightful HR Gathering event at its BSD campus. With the topic "HR's Role in ESG Success: Fostering Sustainability Through People," this event served as a platform for HR professionals across diverse industries to come together and delve into innovative strategies, share best practices, and address the evolving landscape of human resources in the modern workplace.
In today's dynamic business environment, the success of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives heavily relies on the active involvement of Human Resources (HR). HR professionals play a pivotal role in attracting, retaining, and engaging talent that aligns with an organisation's ESG goals, thereby creating a workforce that embodies sustainability. This forum provided an opportunity to explore HR's specific roles in championing ESG initiatives, along with showcasing best practices from Indonesia.

The agenda of the event included engaging panel discussions, networking opportunities, and insightful case studies and success stories. There are 75 participants who have the chance to actively participate in interactive discussions on various topics, exchange ideas, and build valuable relationships during dedicated networking breaks. Real-world examples of HR challenges and successful approaches were shared, allowing attendees to gain valuable insights.
This event was particularly relevant for HR Managers and Directors, Talent Acquisition Specialists, Employee Relations Professionals, Learning and Development Experts, Diversity and Inclusion Advocates, Workplace Wellness Coordinators, and HR Technology Enthusiasts.
The participants had the opportunity to stay updated on the latest HR trends and best practices, particularly related to ESG. Moreover, networking with industry peers provided a platform to establish meaningful connections and expand professional networks.
The panel discussion segment featured distinguished speakers who shared their expertise on relevant topics. Dr. Yessy Perangin Angin, Associate Professor of Business Innovation at Monash University, Indonesia, presented on "The Role of People in Sustainability," highlighting the significance of individuals in driving sustainable practices.

As one of the invited speakers, Dr. Yessy said, "It was a privilege for me to attend an event where two prominent organisations in Indonesia shared their experiences on implementing ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) principles. The event was quite informative as HR practitioners had the opportunity to exchange valuable information on this important issue. We were impressed by the strong commitment and willingness shown by the participants to support Indonesia in achieving its higher GHG (Greenhouse Gas) reduction targets of 31.89% (unconditional) and 43.2% (conditional)."

Ibu Pra Ulpa Treeda Ritonga, VP Talent Management at PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk, spoke about "Empowering Change: ESG in People Development Strategy," providing insights into incorporating ESG principles into people development strategies.
"I had the honor of speaking at HR's Role in ESG Success' event, and sharing insights on how HR plays a pivotal role in implementing ESG strategies at Bank Mandiri. The interactive discussions with fellow speakers enriched our understanding of integrating ESG into corporate strategies. It was a valuable platform for learning and networking, advancing sustainability objectives." Added Ibu Pra Ulpa.

Bapak Imam Muttaqien, VP of ESG and Safeguard at PT PLN (Persero), contributed to the discussion by sharing his expertise on ESG and its importance in organisational success.
Imam Muttaqien also expressed his opinion about the event, stating, "Participating in the HR Gathering at Monash University was a truly enlightening experience. The discussions on the role of human capital in ESG were insightful and thought-provoking. It was an honor to share PLN's sustainability mission and our strategic approach towards energy transition. This event has certainly reinforced the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing in driving sustainable practices in our industries." His remarks highlight the significance of the event and its impact on fostering sustainable practices in various industries.
Some participants also shared their thoughts after attending the event. Tisela Wardoyo, Senior Officer of Expert Development at PT PLN (Persero), said "It was very Insightful sharing sessions in a compact time."
