Reflect

An image of the Hoping Against Hope exhibition space.

Stop, pause and reflect in our ‘Sacred Corner’ which we created to mirror those found in many Ukrainian homes. These spaces usually contain icons of spiritual and cultural figures alongside family photos, flowers and a decoration called a rushnyk, or embroidered cloth.

New work from Christy Chudosnik

Our corner features the work of Naarm-based artist of Ukrainian descent Christy Chudosnik, who has created four collages of Ukrainian literary icons Taras Shevchenko, Ivan Franko, Lesia Ukrainka and Vasyl Stus. She also crafted a beautiful rushnyk, which sits over the space.

Art from students living in conflict zones

Alongside this work, we feature the art of students living in conflict zones from Afghanistan, Ukraine and Myanmar, capturing their reflections on hope.

The students are from Classrooms Without Walls' Winds of Change International Leadership Youth program, in partnership with Monash Virtual School.

We are privileged to share their literature, poetry, art and video on a rotating basis.

We acknowledge those students who have shared artwork – and their reflections of hope –  with us. For safety reasons, some names have been changed, and all are listed without a surname.
