Erin Wakefield

Erin is an experienced perioperative nurse with a background in clinical leadership and education. She leads the perioperative nursing stream in the Master of Advanced Clinical Nursing, where a solid foundation in both perioperative and perianaesthesia nursing is provided, under an umbrella of clinical leadership. Erin is a passionate and innovative educator, who brings 25 years plus of clinical experience to the role. Leading an active and engaging classroom environment, Erin is proud to empower students to develop a critical inquiry into practice; to appreciate the power of research, and to grow their future leadership potential.

Erin completed her Master’s thesis at Monash University, and commenced PhD study in 2020, undertaking a constructivist grounded theory into the perioperative graduate nurses' experience of belonging. She has had multiple perioperative nursing and educational publications, and has the pleasure of supervising Masters by research students. Erin is an editor and author of 'Perioperative Nursing In Australia: An Introduction (4th. Ed.), and a contributor to the 2025 re-write of the ACORN Standards. She chairs the national ACORN Perioperative PhD group, and founded the state Community of Practice for perioperative tertiary educators in Victoria.
