An experienced emergency nurse, Kelli has worked in a wide variety of emergency departments. She was clinical nurse educator at Monash Health for six years prior to commencing at Monash University in 2009.

Kelli completed her Master of Nursing in 2007 and her PhD examining the role of the waiting room nurse in the emergency department in 2019. In 2013 she was convenor for the 11th International Conference for Emergency Nurses in Melbourne. Kelli is enthusiastic about emergency nursing and is the education coordinator for the Victorian branch of the College of Emergency Nursing Australasia (CENA) and sits on the CENA national education committee.

Teaching

Kelli has taught across several programs including the Master of Nursing Practice, Bachelor of Nursing and Master of Nursing. Current teaching responsibilities are:

  • NUR3004 – Preparation for practice, chief examiner
  • NUR5925 – Emergency nursing 1, chief examiner

Research

Kelli’s research interests revolve around the emergency department and include workforce issues and the patient journey. Her recent work has included examining:

  • Aged care residents in the emergency department
  • Mental health patients in the emergency department
  • The effectiveness of early discharge teams
  • Kelli is currently working on a funded collaborative project looking at occupational violence in healthcare.
