Medication Management Review (MMR) Accredited Pharmacist, Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist, Certified Practitioner of Human-Centered Design

Elizabeth is a registered nurse and pharmacist, as well as a Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist. She has experience in acute care, geriatric rehabilitation, community care and critical care, and her areas of research expertise include health communication and patient safety. She has received funding for diverse multidisciplinary projects from grant sources that include the Medical Research Future Fund, Cancer Australia, National Health and Medical Research Council Ideas, Project and Partnership grants, Australian Research Council Discovery and Linkage Project grants, the Sax Institute, the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care, in addition to government tenders and industry grants.

Elizabeth has extensive experience in supervising and mentoring research students and postdoctoral fellows. She provides advanced training in all aspects of the research process from research design to writing and publishing, which has led to outstanding outcomes for research students, postdoctoral fellows, and health service clinicians, in relation to publications, competitive grants, and movement into senior leadership health or research positions.

Elizabeth uses diverse research designs, including the conduct of observational research, clinical audit work, development and testing of risk screening tools, and the testing and implementation of interventions. She is interested in examining the links between inappropriate medication use and hospital admission, activities of daily living, quality of life, mortality and the prevalence of falls. Elizabeth is also interested in addressing the complexities of managing medications across the transitions of care relating to older people situated in hospitals and in communities, and in supporting families involved in their care. Recently, her work has focused on examining how virtual modes of health affect communication processes and health outcomes for priority populations, including those in rural and remote areas, older people and individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Elizabeth has worked extensively as a member of various expert advisory groups with the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care to support the development of resources to be used in diverse health care settings, including the community and acute care environments. These resources are in the areas of communicating for safety, and managing medications across transitions of care.
