Michael Larin

StudentBachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Midwifery

Michael found the perfect blend of his passions, science and health, when he decided to study the Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery at Monash’s Peninsula campus. “I wanted a secure career and my passions led me to choose nursing and further challenge myself by doing midwifery as well,” he explains.

With tremendous industry connections and a small, friendly campus in Frankston, choosing to study a double degree at Monash was an easy choice for Michael. “Monash was my preferred university due to the reputation it has as being amongst the best universities in Australia and its affiliations to various healthcare providers,” he shares. “I’ve really enjoyed the family like atmosphere of Peninsula campus and the friendships I’ve made.”

“I realised the potential a nurse has to
make a difference to patients and their families.”

Michael was excited to be placed at the Banksia Ward in the Royal Children’s Hospital. “This was a mental health placement,” he says, “and it really opened my eyes to mental health and its presence all around us.” Michael’s experience in the Banksia Ward have helped him develop both as a person and as a nurse. “I learnt a lot about myself from the experience and I realised the potential a nurse has to make a difference to patients and their families.”

When asked for any advice to future Monash students, he enthusiastically says, “Make the most of every opportunity, volunteer and get involved in community events. The closeness of Peninsula campus allows you to do this and everyone works together to create a fun and enjoyable learning environment.”
