Clinical Placements
Clinical placements are a vital part of your education preparing you to be an effective member of the healthcare team as a nurse or midwife.
When studying your entry to practice (undergraduate) degrees, you will complete a number of clinical hours over the duration of your course:
- BACHELOR OF NURSING
- 840+ hours
- BACHELOR OF NURSING & BACHELOR OF MIDWIFERY (HONS)
- 840+ hours nursing
- 840+ hours midwifery
- Plus, the continuity of care experiences 10 women over four years
Clinical placement shifts can occur throughout the entire year sometimes including weekends and public holidays, especially for senior students. The placements can be in metropolitan, community, or rural hospitals/areas.
There's a possibility you could complete your placements using a ‘home hospital-based’ model which means being at the same hospital for all your placements where possible, although still working in different areas/units to gain a variety of experiences.
Opportunities may also be available for placements in rural areas such as Alice Springs, Gippsland, Sunraysia, etc. These placements are limited and subject to applications. They provide insight into the different access to care for various communities, including considerations like travel time to receive help and care.
Your course will also include lessons in our Simulation and clinical learning environments.
