Dr Jane Tracy. MBBS, DRACOG, GCHE

Dr Jane Tracy is a General Practitioner who has worked for more than 20 years with children and adults with disabilities and their families and carers. She was appointed to the position of Director of the Centre for Developmental Disability Health Victoria in July 2013 and prior to that was the Centre’s Education Director from 1998 – 2013.

The Centre for Developmental Disability Health Victoria (CDDHV) is an academic unit within the School of Primary Health Care and funded by the Victorian State Government Dept. of Human Services and competitive grants. The Centre’s mission is to improve the health and healthcare of people with developmental disabilities through building and supporting the capacity of mainstream health services. The Centre’s activities include educational, research and clinical programs and initiatives.

Jane’s particular focus has been the teaching and training of medical and allied health students and practitioners in issues relating to the health and healthcare of people with disabilities. She and her colleagues have developed and taught a curriculum in Disability Health for medical students across Victoria and have produced a number of teaching and learning resources.

Jane led an inter-professional team, representing the disciplines in the School of Primary Health Care and beyond, in the development and production of a multimedia teaching and learning resource in developmental disability for students, practitioners and educators across the health professions: “Health and Disability: Partnerships in Action”. This resource has a dual focus on disability health and inter-professional education and practice.

Over the last few years Jane has worked closely with the Victorian State Government Dept. of Human Services to improve the health and healthcare of people with developmental disabilities living in Shared Supported Accommodation.

She was until recently a member of the Victorian National Disability Insurance Scheme Implementation Taskforce and Chairperson of a Community Service Organisation providing support to people with disabilities. She supports initiatives and policy development that promote inclusion and enable Australians with different abilities to access, participate in and contribute to our community.
