Injury & Rehabilitation

Capacity Statement

Much research undertaken by SPAHC researchers is directed towards optimizing outcomes for adults following injuries, and rehabilitation for people experiencing ongoing health conditions and/or disability. Frequently conducted in partnership with primary care, health or community services, our work addresses experiences of care, the quality of services, and outcomes for people with diverse health conditions, including back, upper limb and hand injuries, pain, chronic diseases and the management of co-morbidities, and mental illness.

Our work often also intersects with service delivery issues and reform in the health, housing and disability sectors, such as the development of alternative housing and support approaches to nursing homes for adults with significant acquired disabilities. A further focus of injury and rehabilitation research across the school relates to employment issues, including workplace injury and return to work in health professionals; the management of work-related mental health conditions by general practitioners; and interventions to improve the vocational outcomes and supports for people disadvantaged in the labour market due to disability or persistent mental illness.
