Korea Festival
Monash Korean Studies Research Hub has actively participated in the Annual Korea Festival organised by the Consulate of the Republic of Korea in Melbourne (주멜번분관) in 2019, 2023, 2024.
We would like to thank the Consul General for this amazing opportunity to introduce Korean Studies at Monash University to the public.
2024 Report

The Korea Festival returned to Federation Square on 10-11 May, 11am-8pm. Celebrating its 10th year, the highly popular event featured a range of Korean cultural events, including traditional and contemporary games, food, crafts, clothing, as well as K-pop dance competitions and traditional performances. Various community organisations supporting Korean culture and language were also in attendance. This year the Monash University Korean Studies stall was generously funded by LLCL, providing us with the perfect opportunity to engage with the Melbourne public and spread information about our program. That was a considerable amount of interest in what we do at Monash, and our knowledgeable staff and helpful student volunteers were instrumental in promoting Korean Studies. We look forward to many more years participating in this exciting cultural event, and anticipate the thriving of Korean studies at Monash and Korean culture and language across Melbourne. Special thanks to the Korean Consulate and the Korean Society of Victoria for making this event possible, and to all our student volunteers and community participants for coming out to promote and experience Korean culture.
2023 Report

On May 13, 2023, members of Monash University Korean Studies Research Hub and Korean Appreciation Student Association (KASA) ran a stall to celebrate the Korea-related activities of Monash students and educators at the annual Korean Festival in Federation Square, Melbourne. Drs Andy Jackson and Jessica Huynh were assisted by students from the Monash Korean Studies programme and spent the day speaking to potential students and interested members of the public about Korea, Korean Studies and life at Monash. Spectacular weather and a great schedule of events ensured a fantastic turnout on the day. Visitors who came to the stall later in the afternoon were treated to a demonstration of traditional Korean games by Xuaniss and other representatives of KASA.
Monash Korean Studies and KASA wish to express their thanks to the Consul General of the Republic of Korea Consulate in Melbourne for putting on such a successful event.
Thanks also to all our volunteers on the day!
