BRIN delegation visits Monash University, Indonesia
South Tangerang, 17 May 2024 - The National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia (BRIN) embarked on a landmark visit to Monash University, Indonesia in Green Office Park 9, Bumi Serpong Damai, South Tangerang, Banten. The purpose of the visit is to underscore a mutual commitment to advancing research and fostering innovation. The delegation, led by Nugroho Adi Sasongko, the Head of the Research Center for Sustainable Production Systems and Life Cycle Assessment/PR SPBPDH, 1 out of 83 Research Center in BRIN, engaged in high-level discussions aimed at enhancing collaborative efforts in various scientific and technological domains. The meeting was initiated and organised by Monash Climate Change Communication Research Hub (MCCCRH) Indonesia Node, in line with its mission to enhance climate change literacy and raise awareness among the public.
BRIN focuses on fostering innovation, supporting scientific research, and facilitating international collaborations to address national and global challenges. During the visit, Dr. Nugroho and his team met with key officials and researchers at Monash University, Indonesia including the Vice President of Research, Professor Alex Lechner, Professor Stephen Cairns and Assistant Professor Alyas Widita. The discussions explored opportunities for joint research projects, exchange programs, and capacity building, and contributing to the new transdisipclinary research initiative, the “Banten Mosaic Living Lab” being developed by Monash University, Indonesia, Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa (UNTIRTA) and other partners. Emphasis was placed on areas such as sustainability, climate change and urban transformations, which are of significant interest and benefit to Indonesia, Southeast Asia and Australia.
The delegation toured Monash University, Indonesia’s facilities. They also engaged with Monash’s leading researchers to gain insights into current projects and explore potential synergies with BRIN’s initiatives. Since Monash University, Indonesia also expressed interest in opening the new department on sustainability, that aligns with the research focus in this research center.

Professor Alex Lechner expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “Monash University, Indonesia is committed to fostering international partnerships that drive research excellence and innovation. Our collaboration with BRIN presents an exciting opportunity to tackle some of the most pressing issues facing our world today, and we are eager to work together to achieve impactful outcomes like doing some capacity building and running workshops together.”
