Monash University Appoints Dr Megan Clark AC as Chancellor

In a momentous occasion for Monash University, Dr. Megan Clark AC was installed as the institution's ninth Chancellor on September 2, 2025. This appointment marks a historic milestone, as Dr. Clark becomes the first woman to hold the position.

Dr. Clark's journey with Monash University began in 2015 when she joined the University Council. She then took on the role of Deputy Chancellor in 2021 before being appointed as Chancellor by the Council. This decision was driven by Dr. Clark's demonstrated commitment to Monash's future, her extensive leadership experience across various industries, and her significant contributions to Australian science and research.

"Having served on the Council of Monash University since 2015, I have seen first hand both the successes and the challenges the University has had to navigate, and I am honoured to be able to step into the role of Chancellor to help continue to guide this great institution through this next important phase," said Dr. Clark.

Prestigious Credentials and Achievements

Dr. Megan Clark's impressive career is marked by numerous accolades and accomplishments. She is the former head of CSIRO and the Australian Space Agency, and she chaired the Review of Australia's Space Industry Capability in 2018. Prior to that, she served as the inaugural Head of the Australian Space Agency from 2018 to 2020 before becoming the Chair of the Agency's advisory board.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Dr. Clark was awarded a Companion of the Order of Australia for eminent service to scientific research and development in 2014. She was also the recipient of the prestigious Australian Academy of Science Medal in 2019. Additionally, she is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Science and Engineering (ATSE) and holds a bachelor's degree with first-class honors from the University of Western Australia and a PhD in Economic Geology from Queen's University, Canada.
