Jakarta – The 1+1 double degree program developed by Monash University, Indonesia in collaboration with PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) has been awarded the 2025 Victorian International Education Award for Excellence in Transnational Education and International Partnerships. Presented by the Government of Victoria, Australia, the award recognises the program’s success in cultivating global talent equipped to lead the future energy transition. This achievement further reinforces Monash University, Indonesia’s role as a trusted academic partner in accelerating Indonesia’s national energy transition through world-class human capital development.
Tailored for PLN professionals, the program brings together business skills and technical engineering training through an integrated study track. Participants spend their first year pursuing the Master of Business Innovation at Monash University, Indonesia, then continue with the Master of Engineering in Australia after completing the Monash English Bridging Program, an intensive course designed to meet global English proficiency requirements. This integrated pathway across two Monash campuses equips participants with the innovation mindset, leadership abilities, and technical expertise essential for tomorrow’s energy industry.
Following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 22 August 2023, Monash University, Indonesia and PLN have established a strategic partnership encompassing formal degree programs, short courses, workshops, and collaborative research initiatives. This partnership directly contributes to Indonesia’s goal of reaching a 51.6% renewable energy mix by 2030, while reinforcing the country’s obligations under the Paris Agreement, the international climate framework designed to curb global warming and lower emissions.
In 2025, the first cohort of 30 participants successfully completed their first semester in Melbourne, Australia with outstanding academic results. Their achievement demonstrates the program’s academic quality and reflects Monash’s tangible contribution to preparing a new generation of leaders capable of driving Indonesia’s energy transformation.
"This program shows how long-term, international collaboration can cultivate the next generation of leaders in the energy sector. Receiving the Victorian International Education Awards 2025 strengthens our resolve to support Indonesia's energy transition in a sustainable and impactful way," said Professor Matthew Nicholson, President and Pro Vice-Chancellor, Monash University, Indonesia.
"For PLN, investing in our people is the cornerstone of long-term competitiveness. Our partnership with Monash provides a strong academic and practical foundation for preparing our workforce to face the energy challenges of the future," added Yusuf Didi Setiarto, Direktur Legal dan Manajemen Human Capital, PT PLN (Persero).
This recognition highlights the partnership between Monash University, Indonesia and PLN as a leading example of global talent development for the energy industry, in line with the nation’s agenda for a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
