The Monash English Bridging (MEB) program helps you achieve the English language requirements to pursue your academic ambition at Monash University -  a world top 100 ranked university1.

Upon successful completion of the MEB program you will have met the English language requirements of Monash University. You will gain direct entry and a guaranteed place into a Monash University degree without the need to sit for a further IELTS2 test.

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, the program will be delivered online through the Monash College Virtual Classroom by a Monash College teacher in Australia.

The Monash English Bridging (MEB) program is the perfect pathway for you to pursue a Monash Indonesia Master program if you have met the academic requirements for a Monash University postgraduate degree, but have narrowly missed the English language requirements. The MEB program is designed to help you develop the English language and academic skills required for pursuing graduate and postgraduate degrees at Monash.

By completing the MEB program successfully, you will gain direct entry and a guaranteed place into a Monash University degree1 without the need to sit for a further IELTS2 test.

As a MEB student, you’ll develop the English language and academic skills required to prepare you for your Monash University Master program. The MEB program is specifically designed to fit the Monash learning model to help you:

  • communicate effectively in academic discussions and presentations
  • improve your grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation
  • improve your writing, reading and listening skills
  • understand, apply and explain theories in your degree program
  • write summaries and short reports in an academic style
  • understand and use academic conventions
  • learn how to respond to feedback
  • become a self-directed learner.

MEB students learn how to:

  • understand lectures delivered by native and non-native speakers
  • take notes of lecture content for understanding and then apply this information
  • IELTS Listening is based mainly on multiple choice and short answer questions

Reading

MEB students learn how to:

  • develop critical reading skills to understand a variety of academic texts
  • manage the volume of reading required to complete their degree
  • attain real practice for university content and methodology
  • IELTS Reading is based on general texts

Writing

MEB students learn how to:

  • use ideas from literature
  • summarise and paraphrase
  • write research essays and reports
  • enhance reflective writing techniques
  • IELTS Writing requires students to write an essay of 250 words in 40 minutes on a general, non academic topic and 150 words describing a visual diagram in 20 minutes

Speaking

MEB students learn how to:

  • ask effective questions
  • participate in tutorial discussions
  • voice their opinions and deliver oral presentation
  • practice English in a variety of contexts
  • IELTS Speaking one-on-one interviews are between 11 to 14 minutes

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to sit an English language test to enrol into Monash University Indonesia Master programs?

Each Monash University Indonesia program has minimum English language entry requirements. Students who have met the academic requirements for Monash, but who have narrowly missed the English language requirements can enrol into the Monash English Bridging program. They will develop the English language and academic skills required to  enter graduate and higher degrees of research courses at Monash – without the need to sit for a further IELTS test to enter their degree program.

How can I complete an English program if I am currently working full time?

The Monash English Bridging (MEB) program will be delivered online in part time mode through a blend of self-access materials and teacher-led instruction with flexibility to study outside standard business hours.

What if I do not achieve results required to progress to my Master program?

Students who fail an assessment task may be able to resit the task if they meet the criteria. Students who do not meet requirements prior to the commencement of their Master program may be able to defer their studies and enrol in the next intake of the MEB.

Do I need to apply for the Monash English Bridging (MEB) program if I don’t meet English entry requirements for Monash University Indonesia Master programs?

No, you don’t need to. You will be given a packaged offer (MEB + Monash University Indonesia Master program) when you qualify for it. For entry requirements into the MEB program, please refer to the MEB entry requirements information.

Does Monash deliver English at its other international locations?

English pathway programs have been delivered for many years at Monash University Malaysia and the Southeast University-Monash University Joint Graduate School in Suzhou, China. These locations have a very high success rate of students transitioning to their Monash University programs through these English programs with a pass rate of over 95% progression rate over the past 4 years .

Monash English Placement Test (MEPT)

The Monash English Placement Test (MEPT) is an online English Placement Test that students can take for direct entry into the MEB program. The test is administered by Monash University. The MEPT test comprises two main parts - a 20 minute writing test and a 60 minute test with a mix of listening, reading, vocabulary and grammar questions.

MI applicants will be provided details on the registration process prior to each testing session.

50 (writing 50, speaking 36, listening 36, reading 36).

Duolingo English Test

95 Plus performance in long turn answers. Long turn answers consist of speaking and writing components and are graded by Monash College.

Linguaskill

169 (writing 169, no band lower than 154).

The MEB is delivered by highly qualified English teachers from Australia and abroad  through a combination of online teacher-led instruction and self-access materials. Completion of additional self-access lessons and homework is required each week, with consultation sessions built into the program.

The program has been designed with a flexible part-time schedule of approximately 12 hours distributed across each week over 14 weeks, including Saturdays to meet the needs of working professionals.

Throughout the program you will be expected to complete both small group assessments and individual assessments. Students who are unsuccessful in passing the MEB program will be able to repeat the assessment module of MEB as long as they meet the repeat criteria.
