From our humble beginnings in 1960 in a room in the Vice Chancellor's house, Monash University Library has grown to become one of Australia's leading academic libraries. The services and resources that the Library provides are the bedrock on which the Monash community builds its high standard of learning, teaching and research.

The Library today combines traditional roles with an ongoing commitment to transformation of its facilities and services in order to assist the University in meeting its objectives.

We take pride in the services we provide and the many initiatives we undertake in partnership with Monash staff and students and the broader community.

Monash University Library is an exceptional academic library that works in partnership with the faculties to strengthen education and research at Monash. We manage a comprehensive collection of four million items in a variety of formats, including one of the most extensive collections of electronic resources in the world. Our libraries are the main learning spaces on each campus, offering a range of study facilities for individual and group study. We underpin the University’s academic programs by ensuring that all students develop their ability to study and undertake research as independent learners, and we embrace the opportunities provided by new technologies in the discovery and use of information, and in managing and promoting many of the University’s research outputs.
