Additionally, important concepts such as legal and ethical frameworks, transition to adult care services and socio-cultural principles will be discussed as they apply to patient and family centred care. You, as a RN with an advanced level of practice will also engage in learning related to clinical leadership.
Both units are 12 credit points and on successful completion, you will be eligible to graduate with a Graduate certificate of advanced clinical nursing.
Should you wish to undertake further study and progress toward a higher qualification, pathways exist for you to continue your education in a Graduate Diploma or Master of Advanced Clinical Nursing. Further information is available in the course handbook.
The two core units will take one year of full-time study to complete.
Should you wish to proceed to further study beyond the Graduate certificate of advanced clinical nursing, further information to identify course duration is available in the course handbook.

"‘Since I finished my post grad last year, I have been able to move into a new role of Clinical Support Nurse within Peninsula Health in March. This role is to support/supervise student nurses, graduate nurses RN/EN and novice staff requiring extra support, when they cannot get this from the ward staff. My role is to share my knowledge and to teach new skills as necessary. This new role has allowed me to increase my knowledge and skills so that I am able to help students/staff become familiar with new skills and empower them to become more autonomous within their scope.
By doing the post grad in Med/Surg has given me so much more knowledge to be able to care for my patients better and being more aware of a deteriorating patient and the steps to take to provide a good outcome for the patients.
I am so glad that I did the course as it has helped me be a better nurse and support my fellow peers."
