The two core units will take a year to complete.
To be a skilled neuroscience clinician, advanced nursing and assessment skill are required and students will review integral body systems. The neuroscience patient is complex and ensuring that advanced assessment skills are refined prior to undertaking the neuroscience learning is essential.
Medical surgical nursing 1
Key areas of study include:
- pathophysiology,
- patient assessment,
- advanced clinical care,
- pharmacology and developmentally appropriate communication.
- The systems covered include respiratory, cardiovascular, renal, gastrointestinal and shock.
In addition, as a graduate student, you will immerse in learning opportunities designed to expand your skills in critical thinking, problem solving, evidence-based practice, and clinical decision making. You will also be exposed to core concepts associated with research including literature searching, critique of contemporary research, referencing and advanced academic writing skills.
Neuroscience nursing
Key areas of study include:
- Pathophysiology
- Advanced neurological assessment
- Stroke – Ischemic and haemorrhagic
- Neurological conditions
- Neurosurgical conditions
Pursuing a specialization in neuroscience nursing will enhance both your professional development and clinical practice, equipping you to emerge as a leader in your field. Upon completion of the program, you will not only possess advanced clinical skills and competencies but also a comprehensive understanding of best practices and evidence-based approaches within the neurosciences. The final assessment will challenge you to adopt a leadership mindset, encouraging you to reflect on how you can make meaningful contributions to the advancement of the specialty.
Both units are 12 credit points and on successful completion, you will be eligible to graduate with a Graduate certificate of advanced clinical nursing.
