Because we incorporate evidence-based knowledge and skills with research to provide comprehensive education in both core and advanced perioperative concepts. The course is taught by perioperative nurses with extensive clinical backgrounds in all aspects of perioperative nursing. Lecturers are Masters prepared, and have qualifications in perioperative nursing, along with many years of clinical experience and research knowledge.

This unit incorporates pathophysiology and foundational knowledge of perioperative and peri-anaesthetic nursing roles. Roles of the anaesthetic nurse, instrument circulating nurse, and recovery room nurse are explored. Interdisciplinary teamwork is introduced, alongside clinical leadership and management principles.

In addition, as a graduate student, you will immerse in learning opportunities designed to expand your skills in clinical decision making, critical thinking, problem solving and utilisation of evidence-based practice. You will also be introduced to core concepts associated with research including literature searching, critique of contemporary research, advanced academic writing skills and referencing.
This unit builds on the learning in Perioperative nursing 1 and applies this to further advance knowledge and skills needed to care for patients and to manage elective and emergency surgical situations, enabling you to develop knowledge and skills related to specific speciality areas and advanced practice roles within the perioperative setting.

Both units are 12 credit points and on successful completion, you will be eligible to graduate with a Graduate certificate of advanced clinical nursing.
Should you wish to undertake further study and progress toward a higher qualification, pathways exist for you to continue your education in a Graduate Diploma or Master of Advanced Clinical Nursing. Further information is available in the course handbook.
