Because we incorporate evidence-based knowledge and skills with research to provide comprehensive education in both core and advanced concepts in trauma nursing. The course covers all aspects of trauma nursing and is taught by trauma experts with extensive clinical backgrounds in Major Trauma Services in Australia. Lecturers are Masters prepared and have qualifications in trauma nursing, along with many years of practical experience and research knowledge.

Our trauma nursing course is delivered on campus with small class sizes, enabling you to interact with your fellow students, all of whom are registered nurses currently working in trauma specialty areas or are interested in joining the trauma specialty in the near future

There are two core units in the course focusing on trauma nursing from injury to rehabilitation.
Trauma Nursing 1
This unit incorporates pathophysiology and foundational knowledge of trauma nursing to develop the skills necessary to care for trauma patients with a range of injuries.

In addition, as a graduate student you will be immersed in learning opportunities designed to expand your skills in clinical decision making, critical thinking, problem solving and utilisation of evidence-based practice. You will also be introduced to core concepts associated with research, including literature searching, critique of contemporary research, advanced academic writing skills and referencing.
Trauma Nursing 2
This unit focuses on building fundamental knowledge and skills in the management of complex trauma care. It also enables you to develop proficiency in the knowledge of how allied health, trauma leadership and injury prevention/research improve care quality and patient outcomes.

Both units are 12 credit points. You can elect to study either Trauma Nursing 1 or Trauma Nursing 2 individually. On successful completion of both units you will be eligible to graduate with a Graduate certificate of advanced nursing.
Should you wish to undertake further study and progress toward a higher qualification, pathways exist for you to continue your education in a Graduate Diploma or Master of Advanced Nursing. Further information is available in the course handbook.
The two core units will take one year of part-time study to complete.
