Dataplace The platform to find and request Australian Government Data.
9 July 2024
Monash has been accredited as a data user of the DATA Scheme, regulated by the Office of the National Data Commissioner (ONDC). This enables researchers to request Commonwealth government data that may not be easily available for;
- government service delivery,
- informing government policies & programs, and/or
- research & development.
Advantages of the Scheme include six mandatory questions for your initial request, timeframes around decisions and actions by the data custodian, the ability to track your requests in one place, and a requirement that a reason for declining your request must be given; with provisions to appeal the decision if you disagree.
In early July the ONDC released a public beta version of the Australian Government Data Catalogue, which is available on Dataplace. Check it out to see if any of the data you’re interested in is available. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, you can still request Commonwealth data via Dataplace as we’re now an accredited entity of the Scheme.
Monash is working closely with the ONDC to facilitate access data to commonwealth agencies and encourages you to submit requests via the platform Dataplace. For further information visit the PVC-RI Intranet or contact datascheme@monash.edu.
