Faculty contacts

When to contact your Faculty Exchange Advisor

Each faculty has a designated staff member that works with students on meeting the academic requirements of studying overseas. They will be the person that you contact if you have questions like; "what units can I take overseas?", "can I go overseas during my last semester?", and any other academic related question.

The faculty exchange advisors look after students participating in exchange, intercampus exchange or study abroad. If you are participating in a faculty overseas program, you should contact the program coordinator. Each faculty has its own process for approving study plans, so be sure to read the details pertaining to your faculty.

Faculty requirements

  • Credit points earned at Monash College or outside Monash will not normally be counted in the 48 credit points required to apply.
The 48 credit points must be completed in the current course.
  • Approval will only be given to study core units overseas if the content of the overseas unit is assessed by the faculty as 80% identical to the Monash core unit. However depending on the course requirements, approval to study core units may not be approved. It is generally easier to get approval to study electives overseas.
  • Students applying to go to universities in Canada, the USA and other universities where 15 hours is a full time study load must enrol in 5 courses in order to receive 24 Monash credit points.
  • You can normally only go overseas on exchange or intercampus exchange in your last semester if you are doing all electives - check with your Business and Economics exchange adviser.
  • If you expect to apply for professional accreditation after you have graduated, check with Business and Economics Student Services Office on your home campus whether your overseas study will be recognised for accreditation purposes.

Study plans

  • Students should submit completed study plan to the exchange adviser on your campus.
  • For every overseas unit in your study plan you must obtain detailed outlines containing:
    • weekly breakdown of syllabus
    • prescribed textbooks
    • details of all assessment
    • prerequisites
    • year level
    • credit points (in host university scale)
    • hours of class time
  • If these are not available on the host university website, contact Monash Abroad for assistance.
  • Normal approval time is four to six weeks.
