Professor Chris Greening named a 2025 Young Global Leader by World Economic Forum

Professor Chris Greening has been named a 2025 Young Global Leader (YGL) by the World Economic Forum (WEF). He joins a distinguished cohort of 116 exceptional individuals under the age of 40 with a demonstrated a track record of driving change in their communities who are redefining leadership across sectors and geographies.They join the Forum of Young Global Leaders, an influential community of 1,400 members , who include heads of state, Nobel Prize winners, Fortune 500 CEOs, heads of state and more.

The Forum of Young Global Leaders was established in 2004 to unite outstanding next-generation leaders from around the world. For the past two decades, it has epitomized the power of collective action in tackling the world’s most critical challenges.

Professor Greening,  Head of Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute’s Global Change Program, is internationally recognised for his pioneering research in microbiology, particularly in understanding how bacteria survive in extreme environments. His work has advanced global knowledge in infectious disease, environmental resilience and antibiotic resistance, earning him major scientific accolades and funding.

The YGL program cultivates a new kind of leadership - one that values collaboration, long-term vision and bold action. In an era marked by climate change, geopolitical instability and technological disruption, the Class of 2025 exemplifies the courage and innovation needed to shape a more inclusive, sustainable and resilient world.

Over the next three years, Professor Greening will participate in a curated leadership journey, including academic modules at world-class institutions, immersive learning experiences and global convenings aligned with the Forum’s mission.
