Professor Andrew MacIntyre

Andrew MacIntyre is an internationally-respected scholar and institution-builder in higher education.

He has served as an advisor to governments and corporations in various countries in the region. A speaker, author and editor of many books and articles, particularly on international affairs in Southeast Asia (including Indonesia) and on higher education internationally, Professor MacIntryre holds board positions for international cooperation, and was bestowed with the honour of the Presidential Friends of Indonesia award. He is a Fellow of The Academy of Social Sciences in Australia.

Previously, he was Deputy Vice-Chancellor Global Development and Vice-President at RMIT University. Earlier appointments included founding director of the Crawford School of Public Policy and dean of the College of Asia and the Pacific at the Australian National University, and professor and interim dean at the School of Global Policy and Strategy at the University of California, San Diego.

Professor MacIntyre will be proudly leading the establishment of Monash University in Indonesia – the first foreign university in Indonesia. His goal is for the University to make a strong contribution to the Australia-Indonesia relationship, and further the social, economic and technological advancement of Indonesia, thereby helping meet the country’s development goals.

An Indonesian speaker and advocate for cultural diversity in all its forms, Professor MacIntyre has a love and deep respect for Indonesian culture, spawned in his teenage years working at a local restaurant.
