Monash Impact Network Series
Beyond silos: Scaling and integrating solutions for urban futures
Indonesia’s rapid urbanisation is not just a question of growth, but of coordination. As Indonesia moves toward adding 50 million urban residents by 2050, the challenge is no longer isolated sectors—but how systems work together. Yet cities continue to be shaped in silos: urban design separated from planning, infrastructure disconnected from ecology, and communities excluded from decision-making.
UD× (Urban Design ×) reframes urban design as a connecting practice. The "×" represents the capacity to cross disciplines, engage stakeholders, and multiply impact across scales—from neighbourhoods to regions.
This talk show brings together policymakers, industry leaders, designers, and academics to explore how Indonesian cities can move beyond silos. Rather than treating design as surface or afterthought, the discussion positions it as a form of integrative intelligence—linking infrastructure, ecology, economy, and community.
Through dialogue and real-world perspectives, the session aims to generate actionable insights for shaping Indonesian cities and regions as a more connected, climate-responsive, and inclusive urban future.
